How & where to post your web-site on the net?
In the previous topic we talked about "How to Create a successful Web-site?". This time we will
try to take it one more step & tell you about what you need to make your page
available to everybody on the net.
Posting your web-site is the most critical & exciting thing you
will go through once the page is ready. The first question that comes to mind is Where to Post My Web-Site? How Much Will it Cost Me? How Can I Do it? How
Long Does It Take?

.Well take it easy and relax. let us look at the first
& second questions.
Where can I post my web-site? How Much Will
it Cost Me?
There are many places on the net where you can post your page for free, such as , Geocities, XOOM, etc. But before you do that I suggest
you ask your ISP (Internet Service Provider) about your internet package connection. Most
ISP offer free space for their members to post their homepages. So take advantage of your
ISP and use your free space.
If your ISP doesn't offer free space then create a free account with XOOM or Geocities. Their service is free with many options and tools to help
you create and maintain your homepage.
If you are looking for something more professional with total control and features then
you can buy space on the net (that will be one of the topics that we will discuss in the
future).
How Can I Do it? How Long Does It Take?
OK now this is where it gets tricky! After
creating your membership with XOOM or Geocities all you need to do is
transfer your file to the net. To take this step you need an FTP program. What is an FTP
program? An FTP program will allow you to transfer the files you have on your Hard-drive
diskette to the space you have on the net.
One FTP program that I recommend using is SmartFTP. This program is very easy to use. The program has many
friendly features such as:
- Windows / IE Explorer like User Interface
- User friendly Desktop adjustments
- Drag & Drop (OLE2)[Within internal windows, from Windows Explorer]
Transferring the file from your computer to the
server depends on the quality of your internet connect and the size of your page. If you
have a slow internet connection small file might take forever to load into the server. But
usually most internet connections are fast. Moreover the size of the page should affect
the time it takes to up-load your page into the server. So try to make sure that your
files are small (*Gif & *JPG files)
Now you have your page on the net, What do I
do next?
Final Steps
-Go to the URL of your page.
-Make sure that your don't have any broken links or images on the page.
-See how long it take to load your page.
-what else... congratulation your page is on the net :)
